Design thinking in Salesforce
Overview
Presently what i have noticed that we focus more on the problem based thinking, where we just target to provide the solution to the problem. When we get a problem we straight away jump into analyzing it and finding a solution. We do analysis of the problem and break down an intellectual or substantial whole into parts of components. But have we through of what benefit we are doing to the issue?
So put this in a better place and justify our approach of solving our problem, we take shelter of Design thinking. Design thinking has analysis but it also includes synthesis as well. Now you would ask what is Synthesis?
Synthesis is defined as the opposite procedure: we combine separated components so as we can build a complete solutions. However, analysis and synthesis, as scientific methods, always go hand in hand; they complement one another. Every synthesis is built upon the results of a preceding analysis, and every analysis requires a subsequent synthesis in order to verify and correct its results.
Design thinking employs divergent thinking as a way to ensure that many possible solutions are explored in the first instance, and then convergent thinking as a way to narrow these down to a final solution. Divergent thinking is the ability to offer different, unique or variant ideas adherent to one theme while convergent thinking is the ability to find the "correct" solution to the given problem. Design thinking encourages divergent thinking to ideate many solutions (possible or impossible) and then uses convergent thinking to prefer and realize the best resolution.
See what Steve jobs said on this: “Most people make the mistake of thinking design is what it looks like. People think it’s this veneer — that the designers are handed this box and told, ‘Make it look good!’ That’s not what we think design is. It’s not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.”

What is Design Thinking
Design Thinking is a methodology used by designers to solve complex problems, and find desirable solutions for clients. A design mindset is not problem-focused, it’s solution focused and action oriented towards creating a preferred future. Design Thinking draws upon logic, imagination, intuition, and systemic reasoning, to explore possibilities of what could be—and to create desired outcomes that benefit the end user (the customer).
Difference between Design & Design Thinking
Design Thinking Framework
The traditional framework of problem solving starts with discovery of the problem which includes gather more data around it. The scope is defined next so as the opportunity can be framed together. The diverse team is created so as they can ideate and illuminate the problem, build, test and deliver the solution to the end customer.

Design thinking (see above image) offers a structured framework for understanding and pursuing innovation in ways that contribute to organic growth and add real value to your customers. The design thinking cycle involves empathy to discover unmet needs within the context and constraints of a particular situation, defining the opportunity and scope of innovation, generating creative ideas, building testing and refining solutions.
Develop design thinking capabilities in your organization
Believe me you don't need any certification to think like a designer. You just have to think like a designer mapping the strategy you have made for the design. More important, you have also to design the way you lead, manage, create and innovate. Strategy drives design and innovation.
Now the final question arrives. Can we utilize this Design thinking in Salesforce? Why not? Salesforce already uses Design thinking in defining the Sales Discoveries. Design-led companies such as Apple, Coca-Cola, IBM, Nike, Procter & Gamble and Whirlpool have outperformed the over the past 10 years due to the same Design Thinking.
We can help and do the same while working for our customers. When we apply the same concept of Design thinking the outcome is more customer focus and solving many of their problems beforehand.
Hope this helps !!
Happy Learning !
